Tsow-Tun Le Lum “Helping House” is an Indigenous residential healing centre offering cultural programs with the mandate to administer healing from the intergenerational effects of trauma, substance misuse, and mental health. Thuy Na Mut Counsellor (Substance Use Program)
Position Summary:
· Responsible for the implementation of all phases of a substance misuse healing program, including administrative duties.
· Facilitate group sessions.
· Support clients individually as needed.
· Lead the personal growth of your group by completing weekly assessments.
· Work with clients to develop a healing and after-care plan.
· This position reports to the Program Director.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Work with the program team to continually support clients.
· Facilitate clearings between clients/clients and staff as necessary.
· Be a positive role model for all clients and be part of creating a positive and supportive environment.
· Keep current with counselling knowledge and skills for individual and group healing.
· Actively participate in all training, as required.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Degree in Social Sciences, or a Diploma in Social or Human Services. (A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered; a minimum of a high school diploma is required.)
· Minimum of 1 year of direct experience in counselling, particularly with individuals and groups affected by substance use.
· Extensive knowledge of substance misuse and trauma informed healing practices.
· Familiarity with Indigenous culture, communities, and spiritual traditions.
· Experience with case management software; knowledge of Share Vision is an asset.
· Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Ability to work under pressure.
· Excellent time management skills.

Additional Requirements:
· Due to the nature of our work at Tsow-Tun Le Lum; and in alignment with Board Policy: preference will be given to applicants who have been abstinent from drugs and alcohol for a minimum of 3 years; and are willing to serve as a role model by maintaining an abstinent lifestyle while working at Tsow-Tun Le Lum.
· Valid BC Driver’s License: Class 4 is an asset.
· Valid First Aid certificate or willing to attend First Aid training.
· Current Criminal Record Check (less than 6 months).
· Current TB test results.
